Restylane

Restylane Treatment

When it comes to smoothing wrinkles, sculpting lips, and improving other facial features, Restylane is a growing favorite among cosmetic procedures. Approved by the FDA in 2003, it’s known for producing ideal results on facial wrinkles primarily around the mouth and nose. Here’s what you need to know about this surgical method and how it’s providing natural elegance to make patients look and feel good.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is an injectable filler that’s used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles, smooth lines around the mouth, and plump lips. Its formula is a clear, liquid gel made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin.

What Can I Expect During an Appointment?

During a Restylane appointment, local anesthesia is used on the treatment area, especially if the patient is getting the lips attended to as well as having wrinkles smoothed. Restylane is injected into the skin with a very thin needle, which allows the hyaluronic acid to naturally draw in water and cause the tissue beneath wrinkles to swell. This instantly fills them out and gives the skin a smoother surface in a matter of minutes.

Are There any Side Effects?

Because a small needle is used during the injection, there is little discomfort associated with the procedure. The most common side effect patients experience is tenderness and redness around the treated area, which can be soothed with the simple application of an ice pack. Any pain or swelling should subside within hours – or at most a couple of days –  after the procedure.  After the injection is completed, patients can soon leave our office and return to normal activity, but must also be careful to avoid extreme heat and sunlight at first.

What are the Long-Term Results?

Restylane results typically last as long as eight to twelve months before touch-ups are needed, especially in areas that are more prone to movement such as around the lips. After this time, patients can schedule follow-up treatment sessions to maintain their desired look. If patients choose not to schedule regular appointments, the hyaluronic acid will absorb naturally into the skin and leave no trace of a cosmetic injection.

Is Restylane Right for Me?

The best way to decide if Restylane is an option for you is to first schedule an initial consultation with our specialist. Restylane comes in several forms that are designed to eliminate minor wrinkles or even soften deeper creases, and discussing these options with an experienced surgeon can help you choose the best one for you.
