Our practitioners surgically treat all types of skin cancers and address medical conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. Together, our practitioners are committed to give superior care in all areas of medical care for our patients.
In addition to medical and surgical dermatology, Coastal Dermatology & Surgery Center, P.A. offers a range of popular cosmetic services such as injectables, including Botox® and Dysport, traditional fillers and collagen stimulators, a variety of laser services, sclerotherapy, and chemical peels. Our goal is to treat our patients as we would want ourselves and our family members to be treated.
Heather Loesch, MD
Heather Loesch, MD is a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon and a board certified dermatologist. Dr. Loesch obtained her medical degree in 1994, as well as her B.A. Degree in biology, from The University of Missouri – Kansas City, where she received two academic scholarships and an athletic scholarship.
Upon graduation, Dr. Loesch joined the Internal Medicine team at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia. During her dermatology residency in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she excelled in the advanced medical and surgical management of skin disorders. It was during this time that Dr. Loesch developed a passion for caring for patients with skin cancers, as well as anti-aging preventative therapies.
Upon completion of her dermatology residency at The University of Michigan, Dr. Loesch was selected as one of the top dermatologists in the country to begin a Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship, emphasizing Mohs Skin Cancer Surgery, Laser and Reconstructive Surgery. The fellowship, approved by the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, was completed in 1999, at Ohio State University’s James Cancer Center. Under the guidance of Dr. Ron Siegle, Dr. Loesch performed over 1,000 Mohs surgeries and reconstructive cases, in addition to hundreds of cosmetic and laser care treatments.
After her fellowship, Dr. Loesch brought her experience and knowledge to Wilmington in 2000 as the first Mohs surgeon in the area. With her extensive training and successful treatment performance, Dr. Loesch can offer many state of the art treatments for a variety of skin conditions. Dr. Loesch continues to be one of the leaders in the industry for the management of facial skin cancer and advanced minimally invasive cosmetic techniques.
Dr. Loesch is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Dermatological Surgery, and the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Loesch has also spoken nationally on the subject of skin cancer and strives to maintain the most up to date knowledge in her field.
Dr. Loesch also has surgical privileges at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Madalyn Ferlazzo, PA-C
Madalyn Ferlazzo, MMS, PA-C, is a board certified Physician Assistant specializing in
Dermatology. She graduated from the prestigious Wake Forest School of Medicine where she
obtained her Master of Physician Assistant Studies with honors distinction in her didactic
coursework and during her clinical rotations in Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, and Vascular
Surgery. Prior to PA school, she earned her undergraduate degree from James Madison
University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where she was a member of the Honors College. She
graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Minors in Pre-Physician
Assistant Studies and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies.
Madalyn has fostered a passion for Dermatology since she was a child visiting the
Dermatologist herself. Upon graduating college, she was accepted into the Bridge Year Program
with Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in Alexandria, Virginia where she trained
with top providers in the field as a Medical Assistant. This experience further grew her passion
for Dermatology with a particular interest in acne, rosacea, and skin cancer prevention. Madalyn
continues to develop her dermatological skills by pursuing the Diplomate Fellowship through the
Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Furthermore, she is a member of the American
Academy of Physician Assistants and NC Academy of Physician Assistants. Additionally, she
has experience in Gastroenterology.
Madalyn values forming trusting, long-lasting relationships with her patients. She enjoys hearing
each patient’s story and providing individualized care. Her goal has always been simple – to be
the best PA possible for her patients. She is native of Fredericksburg, Virginia and always
enjoyed visiting North Carolina growing up. She relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina to be
closer to her brother. In her free time, she is an avid reader, enjoys cooking, spending time with
her family cheering on JMU football, and exploring the Carolinas.
