Obagi Blue Peel

Obagi Blue Peel Treatment

As we age, our skin loses its dewy glow, and fine lines and wrinkles become more apparent. Additionally, some of us might notice age spots and hyperpigmentation from excessive sun exposure or scarring from acne. Many of these issues can be treated noninvasively with a chemical peel like the Obagi Blue Peel.

What is Obagi Blue Peel?

The Obagi Blue Peel uses a topical solution to treat a variety of dermatology issues, such as sun damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scarring. It leaves patients with rejuvenated, younger-looking skin. The Obagi Blue Peel causes your dead skin cells to shed, revealing a layer of soft, new skin underneath. It also stimulates collagen production underneath your skin. The Obagi Blue Peel solution combines two ingredients: TCA (trichloroacetic acid), which cleans out your pores and refreshes your skin cells, and a blue base. The blue base allows your dermatologist to control the depth of the peel, so they can tailor the treatment to each patient. Because this peel can be customized, it can treat more parts of the body, more skin types and more dermatology issues than traditional peels.

What Can I Expect During an Appointment?

The Obagi Blue Peel is performed in-office and typically without sedation or anesthesia. The entire treatment should take between 25 and 30 minutes. Depending on your skin type and specific concerns, your doctor will apply between one and four coats of the Obagi Blue Peel solution.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Like other chemical peels, the Obagi Blue Peel works by causing the top layers of your skin to tighten and then peel, which should take about one week. The solution will turn the patients’ skin blue, but this will fade within 24 hours. The most severe peeling, which resembles a bad sunburn, will occur between days three and five. While no serious side effects are associated with this treatment, some patients experience stinging and soreness either during the procedure or the subsequent peeling.

What Are the Long-term Results?

After peeling, patients are left with softer, healthier skin and a much more youthful complexion. To maintain these results, patients repeat the procedure every one to three years.
