Juvederm

Juvederm

As we age, it’s only natural for skin to weaken and accumulate wrinkles and facial lines. For those looking to keep the fine lines at bay, FDA-approved cosmetic surgery Juvederm is an excellent solution. Here’s what you can expect during this procedure.

What is Juvederm?

Juverderm is an injectable filler that adds volume and hydration to the skin for a smooth, natural look. Formulated from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in skin that decreases with age over time, Juvederm replenishes the loss of collagen in the skin for a rejuvenated appearance. Patients typically request Juvederm to smooth out lines around the nose and mouth, also known as “smile” lines.

What Can I Expect During an Appointment?

During a Juvederm session, lidocaine is used to temporarily numb the area being treated. Using a thin needle, the filler is injected into the skin and immediately stimulates the production of collagen. While administering the treatment, the doctor lightly massages the area to ensure an even distribution and reduced chance of swelling. The procedure generally takes between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on what’s being treated.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Juvederm is injected with a fine needle, which is designed to reduce overall discomfort. Patients may experience slight swelling, bruising or redness after the procedure. Although these side effects are mild and last only a couple of days, patients can use anti-inflammatory medication and cold compresses to help further reduce swelling. Refrain from any vigorous exercise for 24 hours and avoid touching the area(s) that were treated immediately after your appointment. Otherwise, patients can return to their normal daily activities the same day.

What are the Long-Term Results?

Results are immediate and generally last up to six months before patients need to schedule another treatment appointment. Patients may be asked to have a follow-up session one week after the initial surgery to evaluate results and fix any small imperfections.
