Candela V-Beam

Candela V-Beam Treatment

Very few people have a perfectly even complexion. The rest of us deal with some sort of pigmentation or vascular issue, whether that’s scarring from adolescent acne, stretch marks, rosacea, spider veins, or sun spots. The Candela V-Beam is a gentle, effective tool that eliminates those issues with little or no discomfort. Here’s what you need to know about this treatment.

What is Candela V-Beam?

Candela V-Beam is a safe, gentle laser that treats a variety of pigmentation and vascular issues. This cosmetic procedure is especially effective in treating conditions related to blood vessels, because it delivers a pulse of laser energy at a wavelength ideal for targeting specific vessels without damaging the surrounding skin. The pulses heat the targeted blood vessels, which collapse and then disappear from the dermis. The V-Beam is used to treat a number of skin conditions, such as acne scars, stretch marks, facial and spider veins, pigmented lesions, rosacea, scars, warts, and mottled discolorations. It is also effective in general skin tightening and skin rejuvenation.

What Can I Expect During an Appointment?

Our board-certified doctors will perform your Candela V-Beam treatment in our office. Both you and the doctor will be given protective eyewear. The treatment will last anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours, depending on the area and condition being treated. The laser first emits a pulse of cooling spray to protect the skin followed by a pulse of laser light. A V-Beam treatment causes only mild, if any, discomfort, unless the treatment area is especially sensitive, in which case a local anesthetic can be applied. But due to the cooling spray delivered before each laser pulse, most patients report only feeling a tingling sensation during the treatment.

Are There Any Side Effects?

The V-Beam is a very gentle laser, so there are no real side effects, aside from a slight swelling and redness immediately after treatment. These effects, which are akin to a mild sunburn, should disappear within a few hours to a week. Patients with darker skin are more likely to experience side effects such as pigmentation.

What Are the Long-term Results?

Results from a V-Beam laser treatment can be permanent with only a single session. However, depending on the area and condition being treated, multiple sessions may be recommended. Benefits are cumulative, so sessions should be regularly spaced, about one month apart.
